Test Network Connection
After the modem APN settings have been configured, test the modem’s network connection.
1. Send the AT+CMEE=2 Direct AT command to turn on extended error codes.
2. Read the Signal Quality of the system to verify it is within the -51 dBm to -90 dBm range.
3. Send either the
AT#SGACT=1,1
(for
AT&T/International
) or
AT#SGACT=3,1
(for
Verizon
) direct commands
to query the modem to connect to the network and resolve an IP address.
a. If using the ME90G1-WW model, send the command manually using the Active cid number, unless the
Active cid is either a 1 or 3.
Example: AT#SGACT=4,1
a. Successful connections will display the IP address the modem was assigned during its connection
request.
b. Connections that fail will display one of many messages (facilitated by the extended error code
activation in step 1). Some common ones are:
1. SIM not inserted – indicates a loose or improperly installed SIM card in the modem.
2. Activation Failed – generally a cellular account setup issue.
3. Requested Service Option not subscribed – generally a cellular account setup issue.
4. Unspecified GPRS error – typically a cellular account setup issue or an incompatibility between the
network in use and the supported cell modem/antenna bands.
Turn on extended error code responses in the modem.
Verify the signal strength is adequate.
Successful connection of a Verizon modem, indicated by the
return of an IP address.
