Chapter 11:
APA Customer Display Interface
Introduction
The APA (All Points Addressable) Customer Display consists of a 128
by 64 dot matrix graphic Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD), an
RS ‐ 232 serial interface, driver circuitry, DC to DC/AC converter, and a
character generator. The module is capable of displaying 64 luminance
levels and 4 grayscale levels.

Serial Communication Interface
The module receives commands and data from the host over an RS ‐ 232
single wire serial interface framed with one start bit, 8 data bits, and
one stop bit. The baud rate is 115.2K or 9600 if JP1 is placed on the PCB.
