3.
Set all dial gages to 0.
4.
Unscrew measuring unit (2) from calibration plate (3).
Step 1: Measure valve protrusion at the valve head with measuring jig 1
1.
Check TDC position of piston in cylinder A1:
• If rocker arms on cylinder A1 are unloaded, the piston is in firing TDC.
• If rocker arms on cylinder A1 are loaded, the piston is in overlap TDC.
2.
Measure valve stem end to cylinder head top distance for each valve in two crankshaft positions (firing TDC
and overlap TDC) according to the diagram. Diagram (→ Page 141).
3.
Place measuring unit 1 (2) on the cylinder
head (3).
4.
Turn measuring unit screws (1) into the threads provided for the cylinder head cover and tighten to specified
torque using a torque wrench.

5.
Determine the values with all dial gages.
• The valve protrusion value must be ≤ 1.5 mm.
• If the value is > 1.5 mm, measure with a depth gage or optionally with measuring jig 2.
6.
Unscrew measuring unit (2) from cylinder head (3).
Step 2: Measure valve protrusion at the valve stem with a depth gage
1.
Check TDC position of piston in cylinder A1:
• If rocker arms on cylinder A1 are unloaded, the piston is in firing TDC.
• If rocker arms on cylinder A1 are loaded, the piston is in overlap TDC.
2.
