Hoist plugging to neutral is load dependent. Under light load or empty hook conditions the system
friction may be insufficient to decelerate the load quickly due to the high inertia stored in the cable
drum
. With “Hoist Plugging” enabled, the control system will detect, during upwards movement, if
natural retardation does not occur at the desirable rate and will apply torque in the reverse direction
(lowering) to assist with retardation of the upwards movement. The maximum torque applied can be
adjusted by setting the desired ceiling voltage level to be applied in the next parameter.
Under heavier load conditions it may not be necessary to assist with retardation due to the gravitational
force of the heavier load cancelling out the inertia in the system and slowing the load down faster than
the required. Therefore the system may not apply any counter torque, but checks the rate at which the
motor speed is being reduced due to gravity and at the correct speed applies the mechanical brake.
