Cable diagnostics
Bercut-ET
allows to perform diagnostics of twisted-pair cable by basic
operating characteristic measuring and by analyzing its state and type.
To perform the test it is necessary to execute the following actions.
1. Switch to the
Cable test
screen (see fig. 5.71)
2. Connect cable to
Bercut-ET
using RJ-45 connector
3. By pressing
(A) and
(B) buttons select port the cable is con-
nected to.
4. Press
(Start) button.
To determine cable type it is necessary to execute the following actions.
1. Switch to the
Cable test
screen.
2. One end of the cable connect to the port A(B) of
Bercut-ET
, another
one — to the port B(A).
3. By pressing
(A) and
(B) buttons select port one end of the
cable is connected to.
4. Compare testing results displayed in the menu item
Crossover
for port A
and port B with values that presented in the table 5.5.

Status
— current state of the cable.
Possible states:
–
test — test is running;
–
norm. — normal state;
–
open — lack of continuity between the pins at each end of the
twisted-pair cable;

The measurements are only possible with connection to tested cable via RJ-45 connec-
tor. SFP-modules cannot be used for these tests.
