Crane operation in the free-on-wheels working position
Only work with the truck crane free on wheels (not on outriggers) if this is
explicitly permitted in the lifting capacity table!
Observe the
operating manual
and the
lifting capacity table
. Here you can find the
conditions (e.g. slewing range of the superstructure, telescope status or rated ca-
pacity limiter setting) that you must comply with if you want work with truck crane
free on wheels.
Check the tyre pressure of cold tyres before crane operation. The tyres will heat
up while driving and the tyre pressure will increase. Do not release the increased
air pressure from tyres that have become hot during driving. If the tyre pressure
is too low, the tyres will be extremely strained and the truck crane could overturn.
Depending on the crane type, there might not be some lifting capacity tables for
the
free on wheels
working position with which slewing is permitted. With these
crane types, you must put the truck crane on outriggers and then, when the su-
perstructure is in the permissible working position, place the truck crane on its
wheels. The procedure depends on the crane type. It is essential to observe the
corresponding information in the supplied
operating manual
.
For crane operation with a truck crane free on wheels, leave all four outrigger
beams extended as far as possible according to the space conditions for safety.
Extend all outrigger cylinders until the outrigger pads are just above the ground.
The permissible lifting capacities in the
free on wheels
working position are calcu-
lated for the case that the suspension is switched off (the axles are locked).
If you switch on the suspension, the suspension struts would be suddenly
pressed together and damaged, and the truck crane could overturn.
