Mirror-up Photography
Use this function to avoid any camera vibrations when using slow shutter speeds, telephoto lenses,
etc., where even the slightest camera vibration could result in a blurred image.
When the mirror is up, auto focus and the metering functions cannot be used. Therefore, focus
and exposure should be set before raising the mirror.
To further reduce the possibility of camera vibration, use a tripod and an electromagnetic or a mechanical
cable release.
1. Turn the Focus Mode Selector Lever to "S"
(Single Focus Mode).
2. Turn the Exposure Mode Setting Dial to "P",
"Av", or "Tv".
3. Look through the viewfinder and set the focus,
composition and exposure.
4. Press the AEL Button.
The metered exposure will be locked and the
Locked Exposure Indicator [ ] will be displayed
in the viewfinder.
5. Turn the Mirror-up Lever to the "M.UP" indication
to raise the mirror.
6. Fully press the Shutter Release Button to take the
photograph. [ ] blinks in the viewfinder to indicate
that AE Lock is still active.
If you point the camera at the sun when the mirror is in the up position, the intense
sunlight focused on the shutter may burn the shutter.
