Spot Exposure Metering Mode (S)
Set the Exposure Metering Mode Selector Lever to "S".
The light in the center circle of the viewfinder is used
to determine exposures.
This mode is suited to strongly backlit subjects, or when
you want to measure a specific area.
When the spot you want to measure is not in the center
of the frame, use the AE Lock Function.
Average/Spot Auto-Switching Metering Mode (A-S AUTO)
Set the Exposure Metering Mode Selector Lever to "A-S".
With this mode, average or spot metering is selected
automatically, and the correct exposure is determined.
The Spot Mode is selected when the brightness in the
spot-metering area is lower than the brightness in the
average-metering area by about 1.5EV.
The Average Mode is selected when the spot-metering
value is the same of higher than the average value.
When the difference between the spot and average
values is between 0.75 and 1.5EV, the appropriate
exposure is determined at an intermediate value.
Exposure Compensation
In some situations, such as a great difference between the subject and the background
brightnesses, or overall subject tones that will not meter correctly because they are all
black or white, the resulting photograph may be over- or underexposed.
In these situations, use the Exposure Compensation Function, which can also be used
when you want to create deliberate over- or underexposed photographs.
Press the Exposure Compensation Dial Lock Release
Button (A), and then rotate the dial to the desired
amount of compensation.
Exposure Compensation can be set in a +- 3EV
range in 1/3EV steps.
Be sure to return the dial to "0" when you no longer
want to use Exposure Compensation.
The dial only locks in the "0" position.
