Interior Crankcase Inspection
The interior crankcase inspection is done to identify cracks and mechanical damage within the
crankcase:
WARNING
REPLACE A DAMAGED OR CRACKED CRANKCASE. DO NOT TRY
TO WELD OR REPAIR A CRACKED CRANKCASE. IF A DAMAGED
OR CRACKED CRANKCASE IS NOT REPLACED, OIL CAN LEAK
OUT OF THE CRANKCASE AND CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE.
A.
Visually examine the interior surface of the crankcase for cracks and damage.
B.
Complete a fluorescent particle inspection on both crankcase halves. Copy and complete the
“Results of Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection of Crankcase” checklist.
C.
If one or both crankcase halves has a crack or is damaged, replace both crankcase halves as a
matched set.
