Service Tips
Note: Repair of this printer should not be attempted by untrained
servicers. Failure to complete training may result in rejection of warranty
claims.
Screen/Color Matching
• Rarely will the computer screen and the printout match exactly.
This is because the computer screen uses
additive
color to
produce its image, and the printout uses
subtractive
color.
• Review the Print Quality Defect Examples in the Service Manual.
Toner Cartridges
• When installing cartridges make sure the cartridge is inserted all
the way by listening for a click. You should also be able to see the
yellow line at the end of the yellow triangles on the cartridge eject
lever.
• If the cartridge will not latch up, remove it and see if it is partially
open. If so, rotate the housing until it latches closed. If the
cartridge still will not latch up, inspect the small plastic hook
located at the rear centerline of the cartridge. If the hook is
broken, the cartridge must be replaced
• The sealing tape on a new cartridge must be pulled straight out
to prevent breaking.
• Never attempt to disassemble the toner cartridges.
• Each time you operate the Cartridge Eject Lever, the machine
will re-calibrate itself when you close the front door. This takes
approximately four minutes. (This is the same as turning the
machine off, and then on again.)
Ordering Parts
• Always refer to the part number from the Lexmark Parts Catalog
when ordering FRUs.
• The fuser in the 5045 is an expensive, complicated part. Replace
this FRU only when reaching the 60,000 print scheduled
maintenance point or when replacement of sub-FRUS are not
possible or practical.
