4.2.2 Feed Unit
The feed unit is an assembly that has the following parts:
•
Feed hopper
•
Dosing unit
•
Feed funnel
•
Feed bin.
The feed unit can have 1 - 4 feed hoppers, each with a dosing unit.
All parts are installed on a plate.
4.2.2.1 Feed Hoppers
The COSMIX S has up to four feed hoppers. Each feed hopper has a feed
dosing unit that provides portions of concentrates.
In most cases the feed hoppers are filled by tube feeders that are
connected to silos.
Note:
Lely does not supply tube feeders and silos.
4.2.2.2 Dosing Unit
The dosing unit gives the exact quantity of feed portions. It has a
cylinder that opens and closes the unit.
The amount of concentrate to be fed to a cow is based on calculations
made in the T4C farm management software.
The proportion of each feed type and the total amount that is fed can
be set per cow, group or herd.
4.2.2.3 Feed Funnel
The feed is dropped through the feed funnel into the feed bin.
4.2.2.4 Feed Bin
The feed bin is made of stainless steel.
4.2.2.5 Feed Presence Sensor (Option)
The function of the feed presence sensor is to detect possible
interruptions in the delivery of feed.
The sensor has a housing that contains an emitting element (infrared
LED) and a receiving element (photodiode). It is installed on a bracket on
the the feed bin.
The photoelectric sensor sends output to the multiboard pcb.
