Ensuring that the industrial truck is properly equipped
All driver-operated high-left industrial trucks must be fitted with an overhead guard to
protect against falling objects unless all of the conditions below are met:
1. The movement of the vertical mast is limited to 1826 mm (72 inches) above
ground, maximum;
2. The industrial truck is operated in an area in which:
– The lower edge of a stacked load during stacking is no more than 72 in
(1825 mm) and the upper edge no more than 120 in (3050 mm) above the
ground;
– the loads are transported in the form of stable and preferably rigidly connected
elements or containers;
– a guard are in place to prevent objects from falling from adjacent high-bay
racks. An overhead guard was developed to protect the driver from falling
objects; it does not, however, offer complete protection from all conceivable
accidents. The operator should, therefore, not assume that these safety
devices remove the need for sound judgment and caution when handling loads.
3. The industrial truck must be labeled for its area of use.
An extension to the safety guard must be fitted to protect operators from the load or
from falling objects.
5.4
Safe loading and transportation
Nature of the transported loads:
Only adequately secured loads may be
transported. Never transport loads stacked higher than the tip of the load carrier or
the load conveyance.
Stable or secure picked loads may be transported only in compliance with the load
capacity of the industrial truck ( see "Load capacity" in chapter D).
– Be extremely careful when transporting eccentric loads, which cannot be centered.
– Only transport loads whose weight does
not
exceed the load capacity of the
industrial truck.
– The transportation of loads, which might exceed the load capacity, is prohibited.
– Loads must only be transported with the load-handling equipment; loads or other
items must not be transported in the cab or in other areas of the truck unless the
owner has made specific and specially identified provisions to this end.
Check the nameplate on the industrial truck, which shows the load capacity of the
truck and of the attachments, and always work within the stated load capacity range.
