replacement filters. Hearing protection and eye
protection must also be worn (normal glasses are not
sufficient for eye protection). Approved safety goggles
are mandatory.
∙ Keep your work area clear. Cluttered work benches
and work areas invite accidents. Floors should be kept
clear and free of rubbish.
∙ For your protection, if the tool is used outdoors do
not expose the spray gun or compressor to rain. Do not
use it in wet or damp locations. Do not place the tool on
damp surfaces. Use a workbench if available. Use only
extension cords marked for outdoor use.
∙ Do not use the spray gun where there is a risk of
fire or explosion from fIammable materials.
∙ Never yank or pull the power cord to disconnect
it from the mains supply socket. If the power cord
becomes damaged it must be replaced by a qualified
service facility. Ensure the power cord is disconnected
when not in use.
∙ Any switch that does not operate correctly must be
replaced. Do not use the spray gun if the On/Off switch
does not turn off the unit.
∙ Do not attempt to modify the spray gun in any way.
UNPACKING
When unpacking, check to make sure that all
components are included. Refer to the drawings on this
manual. If any parts are missing or broken, please call
an IVT assistance center.
INITIAL OPERATION
Always use the correct supply voltage: the power supply
voltage must match the information quoted on the tool
identification plate.
SWITCHING ON / OFF [F1]
Before connecting the device to the electric power
supply, make sure that the main supply voltage is
230V/50Hz.
∙
Connect the compressor unit (3) to the mains
supply and press the On/Off switch (10) to the ON
position.
∙ To stop the compressor unit (3), simply press the
On/Off switch (10) to the OFF position.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Assembly instructions [F2]
Attach one end of the flexible air hose (15) to the outlet
on the compressor unit (3) and the other end to the inlet
on the spray gun.
Mixing the paint [F3]
1. Measure the viscosity of the paint.
∙ To determine this first thoroughly stir the paint. Dip
the viscosity cup (16) into the paint and fill just below
the cup’s rim. Raise the cup (16) and measure the time
taken for the paint to run out.
2. Thinning the paint.
∙ If the D.I.N. is less than 50 seconds no thinning
is required. If D.I.N. is more than 50 seconds, thin the
paint to reach 50 D.I.N. Thin by adding the correct
thinner, a small amount at a time. Check manufacturers
instructions to ensure you are using the correct thinner
and that the paint can be thinned. Stir paint thoroughly
before and after thinning. Do not thin beyond paint
manufacturers recommendation.
3. Strain the paint through a fine metal sieve or a
nylon stocking to remove any particles which could
block the spray gun.
4. Fill the paint cup (1). Do not fill above the shoulder
of the cup. Screw tightly on to the spray gun, check the
lid washer (6) is intact and in the correct position.
Preparing the surface
∙ Good preparation means a good result. Remove
old flaking paint, sand the surface and remove dirt and
grease.
SPRAYING TECHNIQUES
Understanding the paint controls
∙ Air cap (5): by loosening the retaining ring (4), the
air cap (5) can be adjusted. The horizontal spray is
recommended for painting up and down and the vertical
spray when painting across.
∙ Fluid adjustment knob (8): this knob controls the
volume of paint that flows once the spray gun trigger
(9) is pulled. Adjust the fluid adjustment knob (8) before
you begin the job. This is best done by spraying a test
surface.
∙
Spray gun trigger (9): air flows through the spray
gun when the compressor unit (3) is switched on but
paint only begins to flow when the spray gun trigger (9)
is pressed.
Handling the spray gun
∙
Practice on a test surface before you begin painting.
Spray painting requires patience and practice and your
results will rapidly improve if you follow these basic tips.
Holding the spray gun [F4]
∙ Hold the spray gun about 150mm to 200mm from
the surface. Paint will begin to run on the surface if you
are holding the gun too close or moving the gun too
slowly. Excessive paint will result in runs and insufficient
paint will result in a thin, dusted finish.
