Menu: Bass Management
In addition to setting up bass management, as
described in this chapter, you can use gain/delay
trim (Chapter 5) and equalizers (Chapter 6) to
calibrate and fine-tune your system.
IAP Calibration software greatly facilitates
measurement and calibration of your system
(Chapter 10).
7.1
Introduction
Bass Management enables the use of different loudspeaker sizes, while en-
suring good bass reproduction. IAP 8 has a powerful bass management sys-
tem, to enable optimal bass reproduction for its wealth of supported loud-
speaker setups. Bass signal can be removed from loudspeakers with differ-
ent crossover frequencies, to be reproduced over subwoofer or full band
loudspeakers.
In the context of bass management, different loudspeaker types are
defined as:
– Large: a loudspeaker that can reproduce the full range of audio
frequencies.
– Small: a loudspeaker that is too small to reproduce bass below
a certain frequency.
1
1 Do not hesitate to choose small for a “full band”
loudspeaker, if your subwoofer extends to lower
frequencies. Even a very low crossover frequency
“takes pressure away” from a full band loudspeaker
and may make it sound nicer (unless your loudspeaker
is very large). Additionally, if you optimize subwoofer
position, the subwoofer may reproduce very low
frequencies more optimally than your full band
loudspeaker.
– Subwoofer: a loudspeaker that can reproduce only low frequencies.
Section 7.2 discusses typical ways how large/small loudspeakers and sub-
woofers can be used. Section 7.3 explains how to set up bass management
in the Bass Management menu.
