Scan Settings
There are several scan settings that can be changed by the user.
The only setting of these that can be safely changed during a scan is the
Time spent at each
point
.

Description
Values or range
Number of pixels per line
More pixels will provide a higher
resolution image, but it will take longer to
complete. Default is 256 pixels.
8, 16, 32, 64, 128,
256, 512, 1024
Number of lines
More lines will provide a higher resolution
image, but it will take longer to complete.
Default is 256 lines.
8, 16, 32, 64, 128,
256, 512, 1024
Scan range
Size of the scan. Default is 10 µm.
1
– 20 µm for area
1
– 60 µm for line
Time spent at each point
The amount of time that the tip dwells
above each point of the scan and
ultimately determines the scan speed.
Also known as the dwell time.
A smaller number in this field increases
the scan speed, but if the scan is too fast
the resulting image may be blurry or
distorted. Increasing the time will result in
higher quality images but will take longer
to complete. Default is 500 µs.
Can be safely changed during a scan.
250
– 2000 us
A standard 256 x 256-pixel scan with 500 µs dwell time will take approximately 80 seconds to
complete.
