If you encounter any of the following errors:
“Could not open serial port ‘COM#’: Access is denied.”
“Could not switch monitor on port ‘COM#’ to binary mode.”
“Cannot open invalid port ‘COM#’.”
Make sure that there is a COM port called Bossa Program Port or AT91 in your Device
Manager. Try unplugging and re-plugging the USB cable to the system.

If there is no COM port
‘Bossa Program Port’ or ‘AT91’, but the hardware shows up as a
USB device, right click on the USB device, click
Update Driver Software
, then
Browse
My Computer For Driver Software
, and navigate to:
C:\Program Files(x86)\ICSPI\nGauge\firmware\ISP\sam-
ba_3.1.1\driver\atm6124_cdc.cat
After installing this driver, try unplugging and plugging in the USB cable, and restarting
the software again.
If the AFM unit is plugged in to the computer and plugged in to power but is not
recognized in Device Manager by your computer, contact ICSPI for support.

Sweep Troubleshooting
7.2.1.
Broken device or device not found error
When the Sweep, Approach and Scan buttons are clicked, the resistances of the MEMS
scanners of the AFM chip are checked. There are five scanners on the AFM chip: X1, X2, Y1,
Y2 and Z.
If any of the scanners’ resistances is high or low, the error message “Broken device or no
device detected” will be displayed.
A high or low resistance value indicates that there may be a problem with the actuator, such as
poor electrical contact (thumb nut is not tight enough or dust is interfering) or a physically
damaged scanner.
This warning is often produced because of poor electrical contact between the chip and the
stage. Tighten the thumb nut on the AFM chip to make a better electrical connection between
the chip and stage and click on
Sweep
(or Approach or Scan, whichever button was pressed
when the error was displayed).
