The current position of the Z Scanner is displayed as “Fine Z” on the Approach page. The Fine
Z goes from 0 to 3.3 V. At 0 V, the tip is no longer in contact with the sample, and at 3.3 V, the
tip may be close to crashing into the sample.
The Fine Z graph for the scan above shows that it reached 3.3 V near the end of the scan.
There are two main settings to change to ensure that the Fine Z does not reach either end of
the scan range:
1) Leveling: refer to Section 5.7.2.1 Leveling for information on how to set the Leveling.
2) Z Fine PGA: refer to Section 5.7.2.2 Z Fine PGA for more information on the Z Fine PGA (Z
Range).
If there is no data in the scan at all, such as in the scan below, go to the Approach tab, click on
Disengage
then
Approach
. Ensure that the Fine Z is in the middle of its range.
