If your frequency sweep is smooth, try tightening the thumb nut and clicking on
Sweep
again.
7.2.1.1.
Noisy Sweep
If the frequency sweep is noisy and there is no peak, as in the screenshot below, try wiping the
contacts on the stage with a lint-free wipe to remove dust. Click on
Sweep
.
If the frequency sweep is still noisy, refer to Section 7.2.3 Inspecting AFM Chips.
7.2.1.2.
Disabling the resistance check
Occasionally, the resistance check routine is overly sensitive for the Z scanner. Follow these
steps:
1. Navigate to the advanced menu button in the top right of the screen.
2. Scroll to the section called “Resistances (Ohm)”. With the chip not in contact with a sample,
click on the “Resistances” button to update the resistance values. See screenshot below.
3. Check the values of X1, X2, Y1 and Y2:
•
If any of them are above 250 ohm, proceed to 4a.
•
If they are between 100 and 250 ohm, proceed to 5a.
•
If any are below 100 ohm, proceed to 6.
