Chapter 5. Attaching to a Hewlett-Packard AlphaServer
OpenVMS host
This chapter describes how to attach a Hewlett-Packard (HP) AlphaServer
OpenVMS host to a storage unit with fibre-channel adapters.
Supported fibre-channel adapters for the HP AlphaServer OpenVMS
host system
You can attach a storage unit to an HP AlphaServer that is running the OpenVMS
operating system with the following fibre-channel adapters:
v
KGPSA-CA adapter card
v KGPSA-DA (FCA-2354) adapter card
v KGPSA-EA (FCA-2384) adapter card
Note: You do not need the Subsystem Device Driver because OpenVMS manages
multipathing.

Fibre-channel OpenVMS attachment requirements
Review the following requirements before you attach the storage unit to your host
system:
v Ensure that you can reference the documentation for your host system and the
IBM TotalStorage DS6000 Information Center that is integrated with the IBM
TotalStorage DS Storage Manager.

Either you or an IBM service support representative must install and configure an
IBM storage unit by using the procedures in the IBM TotalStorage DS6000
Service Guide .
Fibre-channel OpenVMS attachment considerations
Table 3 lists the maximum number of adapters you can have for an AlphaServer.
