This section provides instructions to determine if your Windows Server 2003 host
system is configured for storage.
1. Partition new drives with the Disk Management utility.
2. From the Windows Server 2003 desktop, right click Start .
3. Click Explore and verify that you can see a list of the fibre-channel drives.
4. Select a large file (for example, 9 MB file), and drag (copy) it to a fibre-channel
drive.

a Windows Server 2003 host system.
This section describes how to ensure the optimum ability to retrieve and recover
data when you attach a Windows Server 2003 host system to a storage unit. You
must set the timeout value that is associated with the supported host bus adapters
to 60 seconds. The setting is consistent with the configuration for FC-AL adapters
and disk subsystems when they are attached to Windows Server 2003 host system.
The host bus adapter uses the timeout parameter to bind its recovery actions and
responses to the disk subsystem. The value exists in different places in the system
configuration. You can retrieve and use it in different ways depending on the type of
host bus adapter. See “Setting the TimeOutValue registry for Windows Server 2003”
for instructions about how to modify the value safely in the Windows Server 2003
registry.
Setting the TimeOutValue registry for Windows Server 2003
This section provides instructions for setting the TimeOutValue registry for Windows
Server 2003.
1. From the Run menu or command prompt, type:
Regedt32.exe
2. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Disk
3. Look for the value called

. If the value called
