Automatic Sheet Feeding Only (Compatibility Mode): Existing applications
written for non-impact, cut-sheet printers or for 4230 or 42x4 printers with an
automatic sheet feeder (ASF) option use media ID values 1, 2, and 3. These options
are specified in:

AFP

Job control language

OR
v
DDS or Printer Files that support a DRAWER or BIN parameter
The 4247 can be configured so that these jobs can print without changes to the
application or job submission.
This method requires putting the 4247 printer into 4230 or 4224 emulation and
having ONLY the ASF paper handling device attached. Stated another way, NO
TRACTORS can be installed. In this configuration, the paper sources are identified
by the host application as follows:
ASF Bin 1
Media ID = 1
ASF Bin 2
Media ID = 2
ASF Bin 3
Media ID = 3

Creating Form Definitions (FORMDEFs)
In S/390 and AIX: Page Printer Formatting Aid (PPFA) can be used to create
Form Definitions for S/390 and AIX environments. PPFA is also available for
AS/400 as an optional feature of the IBM AFP PrintSuite for OS/400. The
following is a sample of PPFA commands to select the first ASF bin on 4247:
SETUNITS 1 IN 1 IN; FORMDEF 4247B1 REPLACE YES BIN 5;
In AS/400: AS/400 supports user specification of a Form Definition with the
PRTAFPDTA command and DEVTYPE=*AFPDS. Support for user named Form
Definitions in the Printer File is included in OS/400 V3R2 and V3R7 or later
releases.
AS/400 Media Selection (Other Than FORMDEF)
In AS/400, selecting the input media source requires a combination of two Printer
File parameters, Form Feed (FORMFEED) and Source Drawer (DRAWER). For a
4247 with just Continuous Forms paper sources or with both Continuous Forms
and ASF installed, the following selection parameters should be used whether the
printer is configured in 4247 or emulation (4230/42x4) mode:
Front CF: FORMFEED (*CONT) (See notes 1 & 2)
Rear CF: FORMFEED (*AUTOCUT)
DRAWER (2) (See notes 2 & 4)
ASF Bin1: FORMFEED (*AUTOCUT)
