When oil is diluted with refrigerant, separation of oil and refrigerant takes
place as the oil is “slung” against the front bearing cover

Oil travels down internal passages in the crankshaft, driven by centrifugal
force. This lubricates the connecting rod bearings and motor bearings
o
Hydrodynamic lubrication provides enough oil and pressure to lubricate
the bearings without floating the bearing in oil
o
Piston pin bearings are splash lubricated by the connecting rod
o
Oil carry over is minimized since high-pressure oil is not forced into the
motor cavity
o
Efficiency is increased since no power is required to drive an oil pump
