B-series MP Router
The B-series MP Router offers FCIP SAN extension, Fibre Channel routing, and iSCSI bridging
functionality. You can use all three capabilities on the same MP router simultaneously. An MP Router
can have:
•
Up to 12 GbE IP ports for either FCIP or iSCSI bridging (see “
Fibre Channel routing
” on page 61)
•
Up to 16 EX_Ports for Fibre Channel routing (see “
SAN fabric topologies
” on page 35)
For the MP Router, you can configure a port as a Fibre Channel E_Port, EX_Port (Fibre Channel
routing), GbE iSCSI, or GbE FCIP. Traffic switching is supported between the following port types:
•
Fibre Channel and Fibre Channel routing (E_Port, EX_Port)
•
Fibre Channel and iSCSI (E_Port, F_Port, GbE iSCSI)
•
Fibre Channel and FCIP (E_Port, EX_Port, GbE FCIP)
•
Fibre Channel routing and FCIP (EX_Port, GbE FCIP)
Traffic switching between other port combinations is not supported. This applies to port combinations
on the same platform or independent platforms. For example, traffic from an iSCSI initiator connected
to an MP Router cannot be routed to an EX_Port on the same router or independent router.
Combining FCIP with Fibre Channel routing provides an FCIP configuration that lets you connect to
local and remote fabrics without fully merging them. This prevents unauthorized access to all devices
on the local and remote fabrics.
NOTE:
You can use FCIP and iSCSI on the same MP Router but not on the same GbE port.
