SCANNER SAFETY AND LOCAL CONTROLS

This safety ground connects the scanner frame to a local ground to prevent any potential
connection between the scanner and surrounding conductive equipment, and the
resultant possibility of electrical shock. The safety ground should be 6 AWG wire to easily
conduct the maximum current possible with an accidental ground fault. The ground
should be located as close as possible to the scanner to ensure the potential is common
between the scanner and the adjacent equipment.
To further reduce the possibility for electric shock, the frame (or casing) grounds for any
electrical components must be connected to a point that is of equal potential to the
scanner frame ground. There are several grounding lugs bolted to
the electrical panel (see Figure 39), and they are identified with an Equipotential label (see
Figure 37).
Similarly, there is a possibility that the endbell doors could come into contact with a live
power source. It is not sufficient to rely on door hinges to conduct this power to ground. A
ground strap is bolted from a ground lug on the door to a ground lug on the electrical
panel (see Figure 40). The label indicates that point is at the same potential as ground.

2.3.2.8 Main Power Switch
Description:
The main power disconnect switch (see Figure 41) is located on the cable end of the
scanner. It is suitable for use with LOTO locks to disable scanner subsystems.
