procedures require pilot action to ensure that the proper path is flown over
the ground. The main purpose of loading a DP or a STAR into the active
flight plan is to provide you with a quick way of loading a potentially large
number of waypoints.
It is mandatory that you are comfortable with the operation of the KLN 94
before attempting to fly DP and STAR procedures. In particular, flight plan
operation and the OBS mode should be second nature to you.
NOTE
: There are some DP/STAR procedures in the world that are not
suited for the operational characteristics of the KLN 94. These procedures
are not included in the database and therefore the waypoints that make up
these procedures would have to be entered manually. It is good preflight
practice ensure that the KLN 94 contains anticipated procedures for the
flight.
DP and STAR procedures are accessed through the Procedure (PROC)
pages using the
P
button. The PROC pages provide quick access to
the APT 7 pages where the DP and STAR procedures are stored with the
airport for which they apply.
DP and STAR procedures are defined in three parts. The parts are the DP
or STAR name (e.g., PORTE3), a transition (e.g., Fellows), and a runway
specific component (e.g., RW 01L). The PROC and APT 7 pages lead you
through the selection process.
6.3.1. SELECTING A DP
Use the following procedure to select a DP. Some steps may not be nec-
essary depending on the procedure that you wish to fly. For this example,
the PORTE three departure from San Francisco International (KSFO) will
be used.
To select a DP:
1.
Make sure the departure airport
has been entered as the first
waypoint in FPL 0.
2.
Press the
P
button to bring up
the PROC 1 page. Turn the right
outer knob counter-clockwise to
position the cursor over
Select
Depart?
(figure 6-58).
3.
Press
F
to display the PROC
2 page (figure 6-59).
