Section 2 - Stripe Hog Systems
2.13 Hydraulic System
Hydraulic System Overview
The water blasting hydraulic system is powered
by the auxiliary engine and PTO. It is equipped
with two pumps, large reservoir/cooling tank and
in-line filters. Heat exchangers with constant on
fans cool the hydraulic fluid during operation.
Electric solenoid valves, activated by switches in
the control panel and joystick, direct hydraulic
pressure to the various components. Hydraulic
fluid level is monitored by sight gauges on the
side of the reservoir.
The system is equipped with filters that protect
the system from debris. Pressure gauges on the
hydraulic manifold alert the operator when a filter
is dirty and requires changing.
The accessory hydraulic pump on the auxiliary
engine powers the Hog Head, Hog Arm, UHP sys-
tem charge water pump, and the cylinders that
tilt the debris tank. This is a direct-drive pump
that is activated whenever the auxiliary engine is
running. All movement of the Hog Arm and the
rotation of the spray bar is activated and controlled
by the hydraulic system.
A large hydraulic pump on the auxiliary engine
PTO powers the hydrostatic drive motor. The
hydrostatic drive pump is activated whenever the
auxiliary engine is running and the PTO clutch is
engaged.
Reservoir
A large reservoir tank mounted on the chassis
behind the cab provides the hydraulic fluid for
the system. The pumps circulate fluid through the
manifold, motors, hydraulic cylinders and other
components, then back to the tank. Low pressure
filters in the return line near the reservoir and in
the tank clean the fluid as it flows back into the
reservoir.
Sight glasses in the reservoir are used to monitor
fluid level. The fluid level should be maintained
near the top of the lower sight glass when the
system is shutdown or near the top of the upper
sight glass with the system operating to ensure
adequate fluid for operation.
Hydraulic fluid should be changed and the tank
flushed on a regular schedule as stated in the
Waterblasting Maintenance Matrix located in the
Maintenance section of this manual.
