Pulse Meters
The pulse meters measure fluid flow to dispense points
and send a series of pulses back to the control mod-
ules. The control modules count these pulses to deter-
mine how much fluid has been dispensed.
The electronic portion of part no. 238618, pulse meter
for oils, ATF, and gear lube is available; see at left. The
Electronic Fluid Commander meter, part no. 236763, is
not directly compatible with the Horizon system.
Replace the electronic pulse module with part no.

If an antifreeze/washer pulse meter is already part of
an installation (probably connected to a Modular Fluid
Commander), it can interface directly with the Horizon
with the addition of a resistor/capacitor network to the
cable to ensure proper reading of the pulses.
During the setup of the Horizon software, each pulse
meter is defined, including the number of pulses per
unit of fluid. This pulse constant can be input for differ-
ent units of fluid measure, and can also be used to
fine-tune the accuracy of the measurement.
The number of pulse meters in a system is the key to
supporting simultaneous dispensing of fluids.

With one pulse meter in the line of each fluid being
controlled and monitored (which is the minimum
requirement), the Horizon will support one reel
dispensing each of the fluids at a given time. The
groups of reels that share a pulse meter are re-
ferred to as
Fluid Zones
.

If more than one reel of a given fluid must be able
to dispense simultaneously, additional pulse meters
must be installed in that fluid’s plumbing.

If all reels for a fluid must be able to dispense at the
same time, a meter must be installed at each reel to
measure the fluid dispensed there. To support
simultaneous dispensing to many areas, the fluid
system (particularly the pump) must be sized prop-
erly.

Up to 6 pulse meters can be connected to each
control module.

If there is one pulse meter per fluid, it should be
located near the pump.

If there are multiple meters for a single fluid, check
valves should be placed in series with each meter
to prevent false counting of pulses due to pulsation
(see page 106).

The pulse meter for a dispense point does not have
to be connected to the same control module as the
air or fluid solenoids used to control that dispense
point.
