Installation and Troubleshooting Tips
Keypad
The keypad sends keystrokes to the control modules
and receives characters back to write on the screen. It
contains none of the Horizon system programming
information that is entered during Setup. It does have
some internal, microchip-based programming of its
own, to translate keystrokes and screen data, and
should be treated as any keyboard or computing
device would be handled.
Cabling
Check the cable routing and connections before turn-
ing on the power to the Horizon system for the first
time. Pay particular attention to the meter connections;
if wired incorrectly, the meters or control modules can
be damaged.
New Installation Startup
Start a new installation by using CLEAR SETUP
"
ALL MEMORY to erase the control module(s) memory.
See page 23. This will initialize all the tables and
remove any data accidently left after testing in the
factory. It will also delete the factory-provided pass-
word of 1111, so before exiting SETUP, make sure you
have added a password with SETUP access.
CAUTION
If the Master Control Module was programmed
off-site, do not CLEAR ALL MEMORY!
It will erase
the setup information you entered earlier. Instead,
follow the procedure below.
If Master Control Module was programmed off-site:
1. Leave the Master Control Module connected to the
network. It provides a terminating resistor for the
network cable that is needed to ensure the data
travels across the cable correctly.
2. Turn off the power to the Master Control Module
and move to one of the Slave Control Modules.
NOTE:
As long as the Master Control Module is
turned off, it will not respond to the CLEAR com-
mand and your data entries will be preserved.
However, the rest of the network will clear and be
ready to receive the system map from the Master
Control Module.
3. Use the password 1111 to enter Setup. Move the
cursor down to CLEAR SETUP and press ENTER.
Press ENTER again to select ALL MEMORY.
Answer YES to the prompt.
Controller Area Network (CAN)
Each control module in a system has a complete set of
the tables and data that you enter with the Administra-
tive Keypad on the Master Control Module. This is
necessary to support initiation of a dispense job from
anywhere on the system.
NOTE:
The CAN must be enabled before the Master
Control Module can broadcast information. See page
21.
Each time you complete entry of a table (for example,
Operator Passwords) and then exit, the software asks
if you want to SAVE your entries. If you say YES, the
Master Control Module broadcasts that table to all
Slave Control Modules on the CAN network.
Possible Problems
The Master Control Module will wait for an acknowl-
edgement that at least one of the Slave Control Mod-
ules received the data. If it does not receive a reply, it
will remain at the UPDATING TABLES -- PLEASE
WAIT message screen indefinitely. If this happens, and
the CAN is ON on the Master Control Module, the
Slave Control Modules are off-line. This can be caused
by the CAN ENABLE/DISABLE being set incorrectly
(see page 21) or the CAN cable is not connected
properly.
Control Module Address
Each Control Module must have a unique address on
the CAN network. These are set using the block of DIP
switches on the board at installation time. See page
8. The switch settings and their corresponding
address can also be read using SETUP
"
DIAGNOSTICS
"
DIPSWITCHES. See page 27.
The screen will show the condition of each of the eight
switches, and the control module address the switches
translate to will be at the bottom of the screen.
