NVRAM Description
The 12000A uses non-volatile memory “NVRAM”, preserved with a battery for storing the Instrument’s
current state, saved Setups and Lists. The NVRAM is “check-summed” meaning at boot-up, the
firmware checks if any value has been changed. There are three different special NVRAM menus
appearing early in the boot-up process under certain conditions:
•
Checksum Failure
•
Signature Failure
•
Power-Up Preset
These menus allow the user to “Initialize NVRAM”, “Reset Checksum” or “Initialize Heap” depending
on the menu before the normal instrument initialization. If NVRAM is initialized from one of the three
boot-up menus, all NVRAM data and special values for FLASH will be set to factory values (Contrast,
Reference ADC (Timebase), FM Mid DAC, FM High DAC and YigCap Delay). The customer settings
for special NVRAM variables are preserved upon initializing NVRAM from the “Preset” menu during
normal operation (Press the “
PRESET
” button after normal boot-up. See Figure 2-30). Additionally,
the GPIB Device Address will also be preserved if initialization is done remotely during normal
operation.
2.3.23.2
Boot-Up NVRAM Initialization Menus
CheckSum Failure Menu
This menu below is activated under “Checksum Failure” under the following circumstances:
•
After a firmware upgrade
•
New firmware may have new information stored in NVRAM which requires it to be initialized
•
A battery failure (The “Signature Failure” menu could appear)
•
Power interruption to the Series 12000A while NVRAM is being modified (In example, a List is
being created)
Resetting the checksum will allow in most cases for normal operation without losing current settings,
stored setups or Lists. If boot-up does not complete normally after resetting the checksum, use the
Power-Up Preset menu to initialize NVRAM as described later.
