2-2. HELMET FITTING
1. Place the TPL in the hel met, en sur ing that the holes in the TPL plas tic lay ers are
po si tioned to ward the front of the hel met.
NOTE
The TPL should seat down against, and align with, the front edge of
the en ergy-ab sorb ing liner.
2. Have the aircrew mem ber don the hel met as fol lows:
CAU TION
Spread the hel met just enough to al low ease of don ning and doff ing.
Ex ces sive spread ing may dam age the hel met.
a. Grasp the hel met with thumbs hooked in the earcups, and spread the hel met
slightly.
b. Place the front edge of the hel met against the fore head.
c. Ro tate the hel met to ward the rear and down onto the head. En sure that the
edgeroll is po si tioned just out of the aircrew mem ber’s line of sight as the aircrew
mem ber looks up ward.
3. Check earcup po si tion, en sur ing that the earseals com pletely sur round the ears.
4. Check earseal com pres sion.
For op ti mum sound at ten u a tion,
earseals should be com pressed
to about half of their orig i nal
thick ness. If nec es sary, ad just
com pres sion by add ing earcup
spacer pads.
NOTE
The earcup spacer pads
can be in stalled whole or
trimmed to any size or
shape needed for op ti mum
earseal com pres sion.
