Problem
Possible Reason
The Solution
Not enough water in the
water tank. The WATER
LOW indicator is illuminated.
Fill at least 250 ml cold water into the water tank.
The water system is over-
heated.
Ensure that the steam function is deselected. Cool down
the water system manually (see: ‘Cooling Down to Brew-
ing Temperature’).
The portafilter
comes out of the
group head during
an extraction.
The portafilter is not inserted
correctly at the group head.
Ensure that the portafilter is rotated to the right until the
handle is past the centre and is securely locked in place.
Rotating past the centre will not damage the silicone seal.
There are coffee grounds
around the filter basket rim.
Clean excess coffee from the rim of the filter basket after
filling to ensure a proper seal in group head.
The filter basket rim or the
underside of portafilter lugs
have been wet.
Wet surfaces reduce the friction required to hold the por-
tafilter in place, while under pressure during an extraction.
Always ensure that filter basket and portafilter are dried
thoroughly before filling the filter basket with coffee.
Espresso runs out
around the edge
of the portafilter.

into the group head.
Too much coffee powder in
the filter basket.
Ensure to use the correct filter basket for the amount of
coffee powder used. Level up the coffee powder in the
measuring spoon, before filling the filter basket. Do not
tamper the coffee powder in the measuring spoon (see:
‘Tips for Best Results’).
The coffee powder has been
tamped with too much pressure.
Do not apply too much pressure when tamping the coffee
powder in the filter basket (see: ‘Tips for Best Results’).
You are not using the cor-
rect filter basket.
Always use the correct filter basket for the desired amount
of coffee powder. (see: ‘Tips for Best Results’).
