OPERATION
For various useful tips concerning the following instructions, please refer to ‘Tips for
Best Results’.
SELECTING THE APPROPRIATE FILTER BASKET
Select the filter basket according to the number of coffees and/or the strength of the
coffee you wish to make.
• Use the 1 cup filter basket for making a single cup of espresso and/or a smooth
taste.
• Use the 2 cups filter basket for making 2 cups and/or a stronger taste; normally
use this filter basket for mugs or larger cups. The 2 cups filter basket is labelled
at its back.
• For using espresso pads: select the 1 cup filter basket.
1. Insert the filter basket into the portafilter and press the filter basket down. The filter
basket engages with a click.
Important:
Press down the filter basket until there is no gap left between the rim
of the filter basket and the rim of the portafilter. Only insert one single filter basket!
PRE-HEATING
WARNING:
The steam wand will get hot, when hot water or steam is relea-
sed. Even after operation, some hot water or steam may escape. Only touch the
steam wand at its handle. Do not hold your hands on or under the steam wand,
during operation and thereafter.
Pre-Heating Cups and Mugs
WARNING:
Only use heat-resistant cups, mugs, and glasses. Other materials
could crack or melt. This way splinters and other particles or chemicals from molten
materials could get into your drinks, causing severe injuries. Additionally, hot
liquids could run out, causing scalds and damage.
When pre-heating your cups and mugs, the optimum temperature of your coffee will
be kept. For pre-heating, rinse the cups with hot water using the hot water function.
2. Ensure that the water tank is filled with a sufficient amount of water (250 -1500 ml).
3. Prepare the appliance for operation (see: ‘Preparation’). If required (power
