DESCALING THE MACHINE
Minerals solved in the water can cause lime build-up in and on many of the internal
components, reducing the water flow and power of the machine, and affecting the
quality of your coffee. To ensure optimum performance we recommend to descale
the appliance regularly according to the mineral content of the water used. At least,
with the DESCALING indicator illuminated, you should descale the appliance. For
descaling strictly adhere to the instructions given in this section.
CAUTION:
Do not attempt to descale your machine using any descaling solu-
tion or any descaling procedure not recommended to avoid damage to the machi-
ne. Additionally your coffee could get undrinkable. Only use the descaling solu-
tions recommended in this booklet to avoid damage and health problems due to
harmful chemicals.
Important:
The DESCALING indicator will remind you, if the appropriate amount
of water has been given off, according to the water hardness set (see: ‘Adjusting
the Water Hardness’). You should change the factory setting only if the water
hardness of the water used for the machine is really medium or low. There is no
liability claim of the purchaser for any damage caused by excessive lime deposits
within the machine.
WARNING:
During the descaling process hot water could drip from the
group head and steam wand. Always ensure to empty and re-insert the drip tray
in time at least with the filling level indicator (red button in the cup tray) coming up.
Otherwise, hot descaling liquid could run out. Always ensure good ventilation duri-
ng descaling.
Do not aspire any vapours of the descaling solution to avoid
injuries to your aspiration tract.
It is best to use the Gastroback Premium De-Scaler (Art.- No.: 98175), containing
special additives for preserving the metal surfaces thus maintaining high perfor-
mance of our machines. Mix 70 ml of the Gastroback Premium De-Scaler with up to
1400 ml of clear water. Do not use any corrosive chemicals as these could damage
the metal and seals of the machine.
Because of the natural variations in water hardness and usage of the machine, we
can only give some guidelines for the frequency of descaling the machine.
