6.1 Redundancy of Components
• Xbar Data Interconnect board (XDI)
An XDI is a board on which ASIC (GDX) that controls data paths of the crossbar is
mounted. An XDI has ports to connect to SBs and IO_Units, and transfers data
between ports. As basic configuration, four XDIs are mounted. It is possible to adopt
redundant configuration (duplication) handling two XDIs as a set. The redundant
configuration is referred to as a mirror mechanism. For details, see Section
• Xbar Address Interconnect board (XAI)
An XAI is a board on which ASIC (GAC) that controls address paths of the crossbar
is mounted. An XAI has ports to connect SBs and IO_Units, and transfers address
information between ports. As basic configuration, two XAIs are mounted. It is
possible to adopt redundant configuration (duplication). The redundant configuration
is referred to as a mirror mechanism. For details, see Section
• Management Board (MMB)
Two MMBs are mounted in the basic configuration. One of them is in the active state
while the other is in the standby state.
• IO_Unit
One to up to eight IO_Units can be mounted. Redundant configuration can be
adopted depending on the operation methods. For details, see
HDD (Use of PRIMECLUSTER GDS),"
An IO_Unit has four HDDs and four PCI cassettes. An IO_Unit has
four PCI-Box interface ports to connect to a PCI_Box that expands the number of PCI
slots. To increase the number of PCI slots, connect a PCI-Box interface port to a
PCI_Box with cables.
• PCI_Box
Up to 12 PCI cards can be inserted in a PCI_Box that is connected as an option to the
PCI-Box interface output from an IO_Unit. Redundant configuration can be adopted
depending on the operation method.
• Gigabit Switch Board (GSWB)
In the basic configuration, no GSWB is mounted. Two boards can be mounted as an
option. If two boards are mounted, redundant configuration can be adopted.
• Power Supply Unit (PSU)
A PSU converts AC input to 48 VDC. This unit adopts redundant configuration as
basic configuration.
• FAN Tray (FAN)
