4.1 Basic Mechanism

The PRIMEQUEST series has a function that redirects the console information to the
management LAN having the external interface through the firmware and private
LAN (console redirection). This function enables the console of each partition to be
operated from a general-purpose PC connected to the management LAN.

For details of the console redirection function, see Section

4.2.6, "Console

The PRIMEQUEST series has the KVM to which the keyboard, mouse, and DVD
unit can be connected. The KVM switching function switches the partitions to which
the KVM is to be connected. This function enables sharing the keyboard, mouse, and
DVD unit among the various partitions.

For details of the KVM switching function, see Section

4.2.5, "KVM/USB connection

The MMB centralizes the management of the PSA and GSWB, thereby enabling them
to be operated from the MMB Web-UI not from a dedicated console, but from a
general-purpose PC connected to the management LAN.

Accordingly, functions used by the system administrator or user during operation
through the MMB and MMB Web-UI are operated through the Web-UI. However,
special functions used by service engineers are operated in command line interface
(CLI) operation using commands.

The main functions of the PSA are described in Section

4.3, "PSA Functions."

The specifications and main functions of the GSWB are described in

"Business LAN Management by GSWB."

4.1.1

LAN configuration (management LAN/private LAN/business

LAN)

The PRIMEQUEST cabinet contains three different LANS in addition to the internal
bus connection. Each of these LANs has a different use.

These three LANs are the management LAN, private LAN, and business LAN. They
are separated for security and load distribution purposes.

The management LAN is provided for system management purposes and has external
ports for the user (system administrator), Fujitsu certified service engineer, and
remote customer support system (REMCS) on the MMB.

The private LAN is provided for internal control of the system.
