Adjust Pump Drive Belt Tension
Check the poly chain belt tension only after the en-
tire machine is at operating temperature (minimum
of two hours of continuous paving operation)
Do not overtighten belts. Overtightening the belts
can cause premature belt and/or bearing failure.
Tension values for poly chain belts are tempera-
ture-sensitive. When installing belts, either new or
used, adjust the belts using the values listed in the
table below for cold equipment. Then operate the
machine at least two hours and adjust the belt ten-
sion to the values listed in the table for machinery
at operating temperature. Ref. Table 9.1.
There are two pump drive belts. This procedure
must be performed for both belts.
•
Operate the machine for at least 2 hours
to bring the machine up to operating tem-
perature.
• Stop the engine and perform the lockout
and tagout procedure.
•
Raise the hood.

Loosen the belt access cover bolts, then rotate the
covers (1) until the belts are visible.

Place the tester against and perpendicular to the
belt (2). Do not press down on the plunger.
Make a mark (3) on the barrel of the tester at the
point where the tester meets the top of the access
cover. It may be necessary to place a straight edge
over the belt access hole to accurately mark this
position.
Remove the tester.
Set the large o-ring (4) 1/4 in (6.4 mm) above the
mark (3).
Set the small o-ring (5) to 0 on the deflection scale.
