9.3.6 Configuration: Modbus TCP (Ethernet)
The Base Control Module comes with an optional Ethernet card. This
card has two ports that can be used with the Modbus TCP protocol.
With the Ethernet card installed,
and Modbus Serial also in use
,
Modbus
Serial configuration settings must be made using the MUI
or inControl interface.
Initial Ethernet settings for communications with other system
equipment must be made using the MUI.

can be used to set up the BCM for communications with external
devices. It is important to assign IP addresses and subnet masks
that are compatible with the external Ethernet network.
The BCM can be configured after this initial Ethernet setup using
the BCM DIP switches, or the inControl application, once it is
configured.
The BCM DIP switches define how the Ethernet module will operate
(see
). The DIP switches can determine whether the IP
address is set using BCM DIP switches, or using inControl or the
MUI. To set up an IP address on the BCM Ethernet card, choose an
IP address from the following choices:
•
either
192.168.1.XXX
where XXX is constructed using the first
column in the table below to define the Low Octet (0-253), or
•
DHCP
(pulls IP address from DHCP server), or
•
Internal IP Address Allocation Method
(if DIP switch 9 is set to ON
and DIP switch 4 is set to ON, the BCM disregards the other DIP
Switch selections and IP configuration is done via inControl software
or the MUI by setting parameter “IP ADDRESS ALLOCATION
METHOD.” The available settings for this parameter are as follows:
•
0 - 192.168.1.254,
•
1 - DHCP,
•
2 - Stored IP (settable using the user interface, whether inControl
or MUI).
