Characteristics of the Automated Transmission
The Eaton EA(B)O-6X06 automated transmission is basically a conventional ES family mechanical transmission
with 06 forward speeds and 1 reverse speed.
The EA(B)O-6X06 is designed to be a fully automated transmission, providing full clutch displacement and
control functionality.
It is controlled by a Transmission Control Unit (TCU), which controls all power supply, gear shifting strategy, clutch
engagement and disengagement, fault management, diagnostics and executes commands, through sensors
installed in the electro-hydraulic control unit and in the transmission that send signals to the TCU to perform the
management of the general operation of the electro-hydraulic control system and the mechanical transmission.
In the EA(B)O-6X06, gear shifts are made automatically, in an intelligent way, taking into account the best use of
the engine in each situation, since the engine and transmission are all the time “talking” through the integrated
TCU to the vehicle CAN network.
Although the system uses a clutch, the work of its engagement and disengagement is done through an actuator
controlled by the TCU. This way, the vehicle does not have a clutch pedal.
The EA transmission has synchronizers, to make easy gear shifting by equalizing the speed, facilitating gear
coupling in an accurate and smooth way.
