Parking Brake Adjustment
The floor mounted parking brake has an adjustment knob on the end of the
handle. If the vehicle starts to roll when the parking brake is engaged on a
hill, position one foot on the service brake pedal, loosen the lock screw and
turn the adjustment knob to the right to increase the tension on the brake.
Release the service brake and check to see if the parking brake is holding.
Repeat the procedure if necessary.
POWERTRAIN
This vehicle has a 28 horsepower Subaru V-Twin Cylinder, OHV engine. For all maintenance procedures for the engine,
refer to the Subaru Manual found in Appendix A of this owner’s guide.
To increase the life of the vehicle, some maintenance items must be serviced more frequently on vehicles
used during severe driving conditions. These include high-temperatures, high dust/debris conditions, or fre-
quent use with maximum load.
Carefully follow the procedures recommended in this manual. Preventative maintenance, applied at recommended inter-
vals, is the best procedure to keep the vehicle both dependable and economical.
This vehicle will give years of good service, given it receives regular maintenance. Refer to the PERIODIC SERVICE
SCHEDULE for applicable service intervals.
ENGINE
To decrease the risk of severe injuries or death that result from a possible explosion:
Do not handle fuel in an area that does not have good ventilation. Do not smoke near the fuel
tank or add fuel near open flame or electrical items which can cause a spark.
Store the vehicle in a clean, dry area. Do not store near a stove, furnace, water heater or other
device that uses a pilot light or has a device that can create a spark.
When adding fuel, inspect the fuel cap for leaks or breaks that can cause fuel leakage.
Always wear the safety glasses while fuel is added to prevent possible eye injury from gasoline
or gasoline vapor.
Keep hands, clothing and jewelry away from moving parts. Be careful not to contact hot objects.
Preparing the engine for storage of more than 30 days requires a few easy steps to prevent a build up of varnish and
gum in the throttle body and corrosion in the engine.
•
Do all normal maintenance per the Periodic Service Schedule.
•
Add commercially available fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank. Follow the product manufacturer’s instructions.
•
Start the engine and allow it to run for several minutes in a well ventilated area to allow the fuel stabilizer to be
mixed through the fuel system.
