Configuring RIP
Note
In general, Cisco does not recommend disabling split horizon unless you are certain that your application
requires it to properly advertise routes.
Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to disable split horizon on the interface:
To enable the split horizon mechanism, use the ip split-horizon interface configuration command.
Configuring Summary Addresses
To configure an interface running RIP to advertise a summarized local IP address pool on a network
access server for dial-up clients, use the ip summary-address rip interface configuration command.
Note
If split horizon is enabled, neither autosummary nor interface IP summary addresses are advertised.
Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to set an interface to advertise a summarized
local IP address and to disable split horizon on the interface:
To disable IP summarization, use the no ip summary-address rip router configuration command.

Enter interface configuration mode, and specify the interface to
configure.

ip address ip-address subnet-mask
Configure the IP address and IP subnet.

no ip split-horizon

Return to privileged EXEC mode.
Step 6
show ip interface interface-id
Verify your entries.
Step 7
copy running-config startup-config
(Optional) Save your entries in the configuration file.
