APPENDIX 22. HOW TO REWRITE HL-1850/1870N FLASH ROM
Working contents
1) Rewrite a Main firmware.
2) Rewrite a Network firmware.
3) Rewrite a Patch Area of Main Mask ROM (=embedded Flash ROM).
4) Set up by country.
Object parts

Preparation tool
1) PC (Windows

95/98)
2) 1 HL-1850/1870N printer
3) 1 CDCC cable
4) ZLHEFWRT.EXE(software)
Time required for rewriting work
1) Main firmware app.7 min.
2) Network firmware app. 2 min.
NOTE; Working hours change according to the capability of PC to be used.
Rewriting procedure
1) Prepare the Windows

95 or 98. When rewriting work has been done before, be sure to
delete all files which developed at that time. Create the folder “ZLhe” in C drive, and save
the “ ZLHEFWRT.EXE ” in it. Run “ ZLHEFWRT.EXE ”. The window which checks execution
comes out, then click OK . A required file is developed in the folder “ZLhe”.
2) Choose Start >Program >MS-DOS
Since the DOS window is opened, move the BLF folder under the ZLhe folder by CD
command.

ENTER )
3) Connect the CDCC cable to the printer, then turn the printer power switch ON . Wait until
the printer LCD display turn green and “ READY ” message appears.
4) Input ” fls-prg verXXX.ava ” in DOS window, then press ENTER .
( XXX expresses a version. Check by the DIR command.)
Data is sended by parallel cable, then rewriting starts.
5) After finishing rewriting, the system will be rebooted. Wait until “ READY ” message appears
on the LCD display of printer.
6) Move to the “ZLhe” folder by CD command in DOS window.

7) Input “ PIT2 ” in DOS window, then press ENTER . PIT2 (software tool)will be started.
8) <for HL-1850>
Input “ /CS1850 ” in PIT2 control window, then press ENTER . “ CS1850 (SCRPTY.YY) ”
message appears in the model section of PIT2 control window.
