4. REQUIRED AIR FLOWS
In order to operate correctly, the fi replace needs air for three different purposes: for wood burning,
to heat the room and to prevent overheating of the fi replace. In order for the air to circulate correct-
ly and do its work, the air intakes and outlets must be large enough and suitably positioned.
4.1. COMBUSTION AIR
The fi replace can be connected to an outside air intake or draw air from the room to feed the fi re.
Combustion gases are evacuated through the chimney and it is therefore important that it meet
standards.
Air intake location
OUTSIDE AIR INTAKE
The fi replace is airtight to the room when the door is closed. It does not use air from the room. It
takes combustion air and air to clean the window from outside the house if it is connected to the
outside via its back or lower vent. The fi replace has two 110 mm wide openings: One must be
connected and the other plugged. The connection is made with a PVC or metal pipe. The pipe can
be up to 7 m long with one 90° elbow or 5 m long with three 90° elbows.
WARNING: Do not take air from a living area in which there is a depression!
AIR INTAKE FROM THE CHIMNEY BOX (or connection to the chimneypiece)
To use air from the room in which the fi replace is located for combustion, use one of the two openings
as an outside air intake. An air intake must then be planned for in the fi tting (box) of the chimney.
The entry point must be at least 120 cm² (with a permeability coeffi cient of 100%). This minimum
will increase when a grille or fi lter is used (for example: grille with a permeability coeffi cient of 60%
= air intake minimum 200 cm²).
In this case, the combustion air intake and the convection air intake can be coupled (see below) but
the two minimum sizes must be combined to ensure that the two circuits are suffi ciently supplied.
The ideal solution is, however, to have two separate intakes (of suffi cient size) for each of the circuits
and to channel the combustion air by using a duct to connect the fi replace opening selected with the
air intake in the box.
