4.3 The AVM NDIS WAN CAPI Driver
The
AVM NDIS WAN CAPI Driver
permits the ISDN integration
of operating system functions in Windows 95 and Windows NT.
The AVM NDIS WAN CAPI Driver permits the use of Remote Ac-
cess Services (RAS) via ISDN. NDIS is the abbreviation for

pecification and is a standard for inter-
facing network cards (hardware) to network protocols
(software). NDIS WAN is a Microsoft extension of this standard
in respect of wide area networking (WAN). The NDIS WAN CAPI
Driver for ISDN thus permits the use of the ISDN controller as a
WAN card, in which case the ISDN controller is addressed via
the COMMON-ISDN-API (CAPI).
A full description of the functions of the AVM NDIS WAN CAPI Driver
along with detailed installation instructions may be found for Win-
dows 95 in the file NDIS_95.HLP in the folder WINPORT\
NDISWAN.W95 and for Windows NT 4.0 (Workstation i386) in the
file NDIS_NT.HLP in the folder WINPORT\NDISWAN.WNT on the
FRITZ!Card CD.
4.4 Requirements for Provider or Other Party
For successful access to the Internet or for RAS connections,
your provider or the other party (in the case of RAS connections)
should have digital accesses and use the same protocol mecha-
nisms as you.
In particular, the following requirements should be met:
• The provider / other party must have ISDN accesses.
• The access should support the “synchronous PPP” (Point to
Point Protocol) according to Standard RFC 1618 or “PPP asyn-
chronous”.
• Registration with your provider can take place by checking
your telephone number and/or by PAP/CHAP authentication.
• Optional allocation of a static or dynamic Internet address
(IP address).
