SIP Subsystem
This part describes the hardware overview of the Mediant 8000 chassis.

P
rotocol) is a standards-based application-layer call control
protocol defined by IETF RFC 3261. SIP is used on the Media Gateway for creating,
modifying, and terminating sessions with one or more participants. These sessions
can include Internet telephone calls, media announcements and conferences.
The Mediant 8000 supports the following SIP applications:
PSTN Gateway – provides gateway functionality between the PSTN and IP
networks
IP-to-IP – provides IP-to-IP call routing functionality
SBC – provides Session Border Controller (SBC) functionality
Each Media Gateway board operates as a stand-alone SIP Media Gateway.
Therefore, the SIP configuration is performed independently for each Media Gateway
board.
