Appendix E. Zixi/ARQ
E.1. Overview
The CM5000 embeds a Zixi Feeder® (http://www.zixi.com/). It allows to deliver to any Zixi compatible receiver a
flawless high quality video stream over any distance.
Key features are the following:
• ARQ and FEC for flawless streaming.
• AES encryption for improved security.
• Adaptive bitrate to follow the network available bandwidth.
• Network interface bonding to aggregate bandwidth across multiple local connections.
General system consideration
Zixi streaming uses a bidirectional unicast connection on UDP.
Thus, specific NAT/firewall/routing rules must be established to allow the CM5000 to reach its destination and con-
versely, to allow the destination to reach the CM5000.
A CM5000 unit can handle up to 8 different destinations. If more are required, a forwarding infrastructure such as
Zixi Broadcaster® is required.
The only supported transmission mode is 'Push'.
E.2. Bonding
Two mode are available:
• Shared: In this mode, the stream rate will be spread over the two network interfaces depending on their available
bandwidth.
• Backup: In this mode, the encoder will mainly try to use the Main interface if the bandwidth is enough and will
only use the Backup interface in case of Main failure or congestion.
