5.14 Concerning the Arrangement of Brightness
Values on the Grayscale
In Option Mode 2, the brightness values for three points selected on the video image, and the
brightness value of one point that has been saved, are arranged on the grayscale and
displayed.
This display allows the user to visually comprehend the difference in brightness values for the
four total points.
The brightness value for four points, Point 1, Point 2, Point 3, and Point M (the saved
brightness value) are shown on the grayscale, and arranged in ascending order of brightness
from left to right. Display can be made using a 1024-level, 512-level, or 256-level grayscale.
The difference in brightness among the four points may be easier to visually comprehend by
displaying a 512-level or 256-level grayscale.
For details on switching and other operations regarding the grayscale display level, see
“4.11.2 Option Mode 2.”
1024-Level Grayscale
Taking the screen right as Level 0 and varying one level per pixel from screen left to right, a
grayscale having a total of 1023 levels at the right end is displayed. The brightness value of
four points, three selected on the video image and one saved, are represented by Point 1,
Point 2, Point 3, and Point M, with each point arranged on the grayscale according to its
brightness. The correspondence between the position on the grayscale and the brightness
value can be checked using the guideline values on the grayscale. With guideline values
represented in terms of percent, 0% corresponds to level 64 and 100% to level 940.
