5-32 Printer 

Maintenance 

Ribbon Sensor 

Ribbon sensors are mounted on the rear of the main plate next to each ribbon 
station. These sensors detect when a ribbon unwind mandrel stops spinning, 
which usually indicates the mandrel is out of ribbon. Use the following 
instructions to replace a ribbon sensor. 

 

To replace the ribbon sensor:

Turn the printer off and unplug it.  Open the printer cover.

Remove the back cover from the printer. 

3

 

Unplug the wire harness from the ribbon sensor. Note the orientation of 
the wire harness. 

4

 

Remove the two Phillips screws and locking washers from the ribbon 
sensor. Note the orientation of the sensor, and then remove the ribbon 
sensor from the printer. 

5

 

Install the new sensor in the printer with the two Phillips screws and 
locking washers. Do not over tighten the screws or the plastic portion of 
the ribbon sensor may break.  

Ensure the emitter and detector on the sensor line up with the associated 
hole in the main panel.

Connect the wire harness to the ribbon sensor.

Re-install the back cover. 

8

 

Plug in the printer and turn the power on.
