Follow these 4 Steps 

Refer to local safe patient handling and pressure ulcer prevention 
guidelines when preparing the bed.

Adjust the bed to an ergonomic height, flat position and 
apply the brakes.

Remove the existing bed linen and apply the 

Maxi Transfer 

sheet. Make sure the 

Maxi Transfer 

sheet does NOT touch 

the floor. 

(See Fig. 1)

If the patient is already on the bed, remove existing bed 
linen and apply the 

Maxi Transfer 

sheet. Use the preferred 

local technique for application, for example:

Log-roll:

 Make sure the bed side rail is raised or another 

caregiver is positioned on the side towards which the patient 
is turned. 

(See Fig. 2 & 3)

Unravel:

 Use ArjoHuntleigh sliding aids. See respective 

sliding aid

Check that:

the 

Maxi Transfer

 sheet is aligned with the head end of 

the bed and extra fabric extends below the foot end of 
the bed, to enable the patient to be moved upwards in 
bed several times,

the pair of straps in the middle (yellow or green) comes 

approximately in line with the patient’s trochanter 
major/ below pelvis,

the 

Maxi Transfer

 sheet is centred under the patient/ on 

the mattress,

the reinforcements are in line with or outside the 

mattress edges, 

the side valances cover the straps on both sides of the 

bed without touching the floor,

the support surface is clear of straps and has no creases,

the straps and side valances do not interfere with other 

equipment (e.g. lines, tubes, drains, wires and bed 
components),

the pillow is placed on the 

Maxi Transfer

 sheet and

the possible chucks pad is placed on the 

Maxi Transfer

sheet.

Make sure the patient is positioned safely and comfortably. 

(See Fig. 4)
