To Lift a Patient from the Floor
Follow these 20 steps
To lift the patient from the floor, use a stretcher frame
(See Fig. 1)

Make a clinical assessment of the patient (follow local rou-
tine).

Place a pillow under the patient’s head.

Make sure the patient is accessible for the lift. If needed,
move the patient using a sliding aid. See respective sliding
aid

Place a bed nearby and apply its brakes.

Apply the
Maxi Transfer
sheet, centred, underneath the
patient.

Move the pillow so it is on top of the
Maxi Transfer
sheet.

Position the patient’s arms on top of the patient’s body.

Position the lift sideways with the lift legs wide open.
Always pay attention to the patient’s head.
Position one lift leg near the head and the other lift leg under
the patient’s knees.

Make sure the stretcher frame is positioned along the length
of the patient.
10 Apply the brakes on the lift.
11 Lower the stretcher frame to enable the straps to be
attached.

Attach all the straps.
All seven pairs of straps shall be attached to the five pairs of
hooks. Attach the first and last two pairs of straps, to the
first and last pairs of hooks
(See Fig. 4)

Use the loop lengths that give the best patient support and
comfort.
