To Move the Patient Upwards in Bed
Follow these 11 steps
To weigh the patient, use a stretcher frame.
(See Fig. 1)

Adjust the bed to an ergonomic height, flat position and
apply the brakes. Place the lift nearby.

Position the patient’s arms on top of the patient’s body.

Lower the stretcher frame to enable the straps to be
attached. Caregiver should always hold on to the stretcher
frame to avoid swinging movements.

Position the
stretcher frame
along the length of the patient,
with the centre above the patient’s navel.

Use the loop lengths that give the best patient support and
comfort.
Attach all the straps.
All seven pairs of straps shall be attached to the five pairs of
hooks.

If needed, to enhance attachment of the loops, tilt the head
end of the bed upwards.

Slightly lift the patient to tension the straps:
•
pay attention to tubes, drains, lines etc. if any,
•
make sure all loops are securely attached and the patient
lays fully supported and comfortably in the
Maxi Transfer
sheet and
•
make sure the
Maxi Transfer
sheet is not attached to any
other object than the stretcher frame and that there is
clearance to perform the manoeuvre.

Move the patient upwards in bed.
(See Fig. 4)

Lower the patient onto the bed.

Before detaching the loops make sure that:
•
the patient’s body weight is fully supported by the bed
•
the straps are no longer in tension.
Detach all loops and move the lift away from the patient.
11 Make sure:
•
the patient is positioned safely and comfortably,
•
there are no creases or straps under the patient and
•
the reinforcements of the
Maxi Transfer
sheet are
positioned outside the edges of the mattress.

WARNING
To avoid injury, make sure all loops are detached
from the hooks before removing the lift.
